The Niche SSP construction estimator salary survey successfully provides more information on compensation for construction estimators across the United States.

However, at every level, many Construction Estimators feel unrewarded and undervalued for the work they do in their companies. 

If anything has been made more clear over time, it is that lack of compensation and incentives can suck the joy out of a job. 

For example, the estimation process can be laborious, and yet construction estimators will tell you that they find parts of their job extremely enjoyable.

A recent Niche SSP poll contains the answers of US construction estimators when asked the question: ‘What part of the Estimation Process do you find most rewarding/enjoyable?’

Out of the 1,425 US estimators, 76 percent enjoyed the hands-on parts of the job. 

26 percent found the In the Weeds (Take Off's) part to be the most rewarding/enjoyable part of the estimation process. 

Another 26 percent Meeting with the clients, while 24 percent of the US estimators interviewed enjoyed the conceptual/initial Estimate phase of the estimation process.

These aspects of the Estimation process are crucial for the creation of a suitable estimate, winning jobs, and successful execution of projects.

On the other hand, about 24 percent of US estimators found the completion of the estimation process (hand over) to be most rewarding.

It is possible that expressing relief that a job is over may be a sign of feeling under-compensated. And there is a high chance of this percentage increasing.

Regardless of the unforeseen challenges that construction estimators face, most enjoy all aspects of their roles in the estimation process and are not just focused on the money. 

However, where do the lines meet between feeling rewarded by the job itself and actually being rewarded monetarily?

Now, money is not the sole motivator for a great performance by employees, but it is one of the easiest to recognize. While construction estimators seem to enjoy their jobs, they do not feel like they are being fairly rewarded.

Niche SSP interviewed hundreds of US estimators and asked them if they have felt fairly rewarded by their pay over the past 24 months.

Following the details from this survey, it can be inferred that a huge chunk of US estimators find that they are undervalued at their places of work. Is there any solution in sight?

Some factors play into the rewards system and salary for an estimator in different states, like the cost of living in the area, expertise, and experience. Asides from the location, it may also depend on the particular company. Nevertheless, any construction estimator can relocate for better opportunities in their line of work.

The Niches SPP constructor estimator salary survey contains a map showing the range of salaries in different states.

The map shows some of the highest paying states, paying $100k to $130k, including California, North Carolina, Massachusetts, Florida, and Kansas. 

On the flip side, some of the states with a higher incidence of low construction estimator salary, paying between $70k to $80k, including Wyoming, South Dakota, Nebraska, New Mexico, Connecticut, etc.

Bottom line, from the details extracted from this survey, construction estimators looking for better and much more rewarding opportunities can find it, especially when they're open to relocation.
